We believe that continuous development is essential to upgrading both technical and professional skills within our workforce. We want our employees to develop the technical, administrative and interpersonal skills they need to take advantage of growth opportunities within the Company. We empower workers by providing them with the chance to upgrade their skill sets and education level through company-offered training programs.
In 2016 we implemented new programs for performance appraisals that helped to identify and build on employees’ competencies through professional development plans. We help develop these competencies by providing training and coaching (on-the-job, internal or external), in addition to practical participation in various projects or assignments throughout our operations. We also encourage employees to pursue continued education by covering certain expenses related to education and professional development programs offered through universities or professional associations.
Our Global Leadership Development Program uses a blended approach for first-line managers, with a combination of online tools that deliver theoretical training and various practical assignments. Our leadership and managerial training programs in various regions are focused on leadership skills, coaching, effective communication skills, delegating and mentoring for supervisors and managers.
In recognition of the important role they play within our Company and the communities where we operate, we have created several programs that help female employees enhance their capabilities and equip them with the tools needed to balance demands from both work and home. Women’s needs vary depending on the socio-economic situations in the different countries where we operate, so we adapt our programs according to the needs in each region.
In Honduras, the Company implemented a program which supports women by helping them to develop skills needed to become more active decision-makers and leaders in their jobs and their families. The program, which was implemented over the course of three years in collaboration with the Walmart Foundation and World Vision® Honduras, offers over 56 hours of training as well as the opportunity to learn about subjects such as management, finance, communications and health.
In 2017, the Company signed a partnership with Catalyst, a leading global, non-profit organization with a mission to accelerate progress for women through workplace inclusion. Catalyst represents a community of leaders committed to expanding opportunities for women and business. Employees have access to an extensive spectrum of resources including educational webinars, virtual events, research and social networking.
